NEW SINGER VOGUE

MORE comfort and performance are features of the latest 1.6-litre Singer Vogue saloon and estate car announced by the Rootes Group. A 35 per cent increase in power gives faster acceleration. effortless cruising in the eighties and a top speed of more than 90 m.p.h. An allsynchromesh four-speed gearbox, a diaphragm spring clutch and improvements which benefit suspension and steering are among other new technical features.

Styling changes give the saloon “low-line” look and comfort is enhanced by fullyreclining front seats, additional sound insulation and a range of other interior refinements. The race-and-rally-tested high performance version of the Rootes 1592 c.c. engine with aluminum cylinder head and inclined overhead valves is now fitted to the Vogue, raising maximum power output from 62 b.h.p. gross (at 4400 r.p.m.) to 84 b.h.p. (at 5000 r.pjn.). Running costs on the Vogue which has no greasing points, are further reduced by lengthening the intervals between oil changes from 3000 to 6000 miles. For more convenient operation, the gearbox selector positions have been rearranged to bring reverse gear selection towards instead of away from the driver. Where the alternative fully-automatic transmission system is employed, a floor-mounted selector lever is now fitted.

Other refinements include the introduction of a combined windscreen wiper and washer switch, and a dimming adjustment for night driving for the head-lamp main beam and direction indicator warning lights.
