Wharf Parking Banned
Although Lyttelton streets contained more cars than usual at 8 a.m. yesterday morning, now that the Harbour Board’s ban on wharf parking is in force, there was no pronounced traffic congestion in the port. Cars were parked in all the streets near the docks, but after some watersiders were not required for work, parking places became plentiful again. The new policy is to restrict vehicles on the wharves during normal shipping hours. Some men left their vehicles at Heathcote, and travelled to Lyttelton by train, through fear of inadequate parking, but by yesterday afternoon there had been no drop in the number of vehicles using the road tunnel.
