ROYALTY DISPUTE
Talks Break Down (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) LONDON, October 1. Mr Arthur Wina, the Northern Rhodesian Finance Minister, said that his Government now had to create the necessary machinery to settle the British South Africa Company’s mineral royalty rights “in our own way.” He did not say what, the way was. The next decision lay with the Prime Minister of Northern Rhodesia (Dr. Kenneth Kaunda) and the Cabinet, to whom he would make a detailed report on how his talks with the British Government broke down yesterday, Mr Wina said. “I want it to be understood that the people of the new independent Zambia would not be prepared to pay a price for natural resources which really belong to them in all equity and justice,” he told Reuter.
