DISPUTE ON WAGE RISE

(N.Z. Press Association) DUNEDIN, Oct. 1. The Otago Trades Council is negotiating with Mason Bros., Ltd., over the dispute between the company and the Boilermakers’ Union. The dispute arose at Mason Bros. Port Chalmers works over the application of the 6 per cent general wage increase. The company had stopped overtime after the 11 union men employed there had decided to work only one night of overtime as a protest at having the wage increase applied to minimum award rates instead of on ruling rates.

This week a stop-work meeting of the union was held after the company had asked the men to resume full overtime, and now the dispute has beta taken over by the Trades Council.
