PRISONER’S DEATH
Police ‘Not To Blame’ (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) SYDNEY, October 1. The City Coroner (Mr J. J. Loomes, S.M.) found today that there had been no undue delay by prison officials in giving attention to Thomas Williams Allan, aged 59, a Sydney shopkeeper, who died after collapsing in his cell at Long Bay gaol on August 19. He found that death was caused by a cerebral haemorrhage. Mr Allan was serving a nine-day sentence after having refused to pay a £3 court, fine for after-hours trading. His death led to bitter and widespread criticism of the New South Wales Government Mr Loomes said he was satisfied no blame was attachable to any officers at Long Bay gaol in respect of Mr Allan’s death.
