RESTRICTION DENIED
Effect Of Arms BUI (Parliamentary Reporter) -WELLINGTON, Oct. 1. An assurance that the Arms Amendment Bill was not intended to impose restrictions on the pistol clubs was given by the Minister of Police (Mr Allen) during the debate on the committal of the bill. Mr Allen said the main object of the bill was to clean up anomalies in the Arms Act. The clubs were operating on a basis already agreed on, Mr Allen said. Many of the chibs had different ideas, perhaps, but there had been little discussion on the subject ,until it was known that the Government intended amending the act. Mr Allen said it was not the intention to allow the automatic Olympic-type pistol into the country indiscriminately. This would be reviewed when the matter came up next year. “Antique dealers today have to keep an arms register,” Mr Allen said.
“I venture to suggest that not many antique dealers keep their arms books up to date and ready for immediate police inspection.” The bill was committed.
