Minor Fires
A fire in grass beside the railway siding in Factory road, Belfast, was put out by St. Albans firemen called at 6.34 a.m. yesterday. There was no damage. At 7.15 a.m. Sockburn firemen went to a fire in grass and tree stumps at the rear of a property at 23 Tirangi street, Hei Hei. There was no damage. Slight damage was caused to the premises of the Christchurch Mechanical Works at 208 Montreal street, by a fire in rubbish on the floor Called at 8.10 a.m., three units from the Central station attended. At 3.50 p.m. sparks from a rubbish fire ignited grass and scrub in a plantation at Beach road, North New Brighton. There was no damage. Two units from New Brighton attended. Boys’ Efforts.—Pupils at Christchurch Boys’ High School had raised a net amount of about £llOO towards the cost of huts erected at Arthur’s Pass, reported the principal, Mr C. F. S. Caldwell at a meeting of the board of governors yesterday.
