OPEN STAND AT PARK
Construction Approved The Victory Park Board decided on Wednesday evening to proceed with the construction of an open stand. No. 2A stand, to link Noa. 2 and 3 stands, at Lancaster Park. Plans for the intended presa box will be referred to the board’s engineer and. if he has no objection, construction will begin. Consideration will be given to the replacement of the wooden terraces on the embankment. Mr H. C. Blazey, chairman of the ground committee, said the Oval and south grounds were both in excellent order. “The oval is probably better at the end of this Rugby season than any of us can remember.” he said. "This is because, to some extent, we have used the polythene covers. A fourth cover has been purchased which enables us to cover the wicket block completely." No. 2A stand would allow uncovered seating for 840 people, with space for another 140 on the three rows in front. “No. 3 stand should be completed by December,” said Mr Blazey. "Progress has been steady and very satisfactory.” The board approved the use of Lancaster Park for an Agfa sponsored athletics meeting on December 19. This was in reply to a tentative application for the date by the Canterbury centre of the New Zealand Athletics Association.
