PSYCHIATRIC MEETING

Noted Visitor From U.S. Dr. Daniel Blain, president of the American Psychiatric Association, will address a meeting in Christchurch on October 13. The meeting has been arranged by the Canterbury Mental Health Council. Attendance will be limited to the medical profession and representatives of the nurses, social workers, psychologists, and educational and religious groups.

The theme of Dr. Blain’s address will be the prevention of mental illness through co-operation among members of various professional groups. Dr. Blain will visit New Zealand on his way to Canberra to deliver the academic address at the inaugural meeting of the Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists, which is to supersede the Australasian Association of Psychiatrists. Dr. Blain is at present director of psychiatry at the Philadelphia Hospital. Previously he was for four years Commissioner of Mental Health for California.
