ENTRY FOR AMATEUR
N.Z. Golfers Absent (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Oct. 1. P. K. Creighton and J. G. Stern are two notable absentees from the New Zealand amateur golf championship to be played at St. Andrews, Hamilton, from October 31 to November 7. Entries closed today and more than 90 golfers will tee off for the right to qualify for the group of 64 who will contest the championship proper. Creighton was a member of the 1963 New Zealand team that competed in the Commonwealth tournament in Australia. Stern was reserve for that team and has played in every championship since 1956. This is the first year that the open and amateur championship events have been separated. The amateur field is headed by the members of the Eisenhowever Trophy team at present in Rome —S. G. Jones, J. D. Durry, the defending champion, R. C. Murray and E. J. McDougall.
