FOREST FIRE
Little Damage At Eyrewell Officers of the Forest Ser- ; vice are investigating the > cause of a fire which damaged an acre of timber at the Eyrewell State Forest early i yesterday. The fire was dei tected at 2.15 a.m. and extinguished within 30 minutes. “We’re looking into it,” said-Mr M. F. Armitage, the assistant conservator of forests. He said there were no men working within 10 chains of where the fire started. Mr Armitage said the welltrained fire crew worked very ! quickly. A strip was cleared with a bulldozer around the burned area, and a 48-hour watch would be kept for possible sparks in the undergrowth. „
