QUEEN’S VISIT
’ Cancellation. ‘Harmful’
(N.Z.P A.-Reuter—Copyright) VANCOUVER, Oct 1. Mr John Walter, a director of “The Times," of London, said in an interview quoted in Vancouver yesterday that there was danger to the Queen in her forthcoming visit to eastern Canada, but that cancellation of the trip would seriously harm the Monarchy. In Vancouver on a private visit Mr Walter said he felt the trip should not be cancelled. He was quoted by the Canadian Press news agency as saying: “I can see the danger involved in the trip. But the consequences of cancelling the trip would be awful. The French extremists would be delighted, the moderate French would be insulted and the English Canadians would blame the separatists. “And, worst of all I think, the Monarchy would be seriously damaged. It would be a terrible thing if the Queen was not free to travel in her own kingdom.”
