Two Boards To Be Elected Tomorrow

The triennial elections of the Christchurch Drainage and Transport Boards will be held tomorrow.

On past experience, neither board expects a good poll, but recent public interest in the Drainage Board’s difficulties may help to get a slightly higher vote.

All electors in the Transport Board’s district'have a vote; but only seven of the 14 Drainage Board seats are being contested. The Transport Board election is a straight-out vote between Citizens’ Associatiop and Labour Party candidates. Both parties have nominated the full ticket. Christchurch central electors have the right to choose six representatives. Avon, Heathcote and Riccarton wards each elect one member. The present constitution of the board is, Citizens six and Labour three. ■ All the sitting members are candidates again. Elections for the Drainage Board will be held in the following wards:—North-east, south-east, south-west, St. Albans, Linwood, Avon and Waimairi. In the north-west, Sydenham, Heathcote, Woolston, Riccarton-Paparua, SpreydonHalswell and Sumner wards candidates have been returned unopposed. Three of them are Citizens’ Association members, three Labour Party candidates and one is an independent. The constitution of the present board is nine Citizens, four Labour and one independent. Neither of the parties is holding meetings during the election. For their campaigns they are sending out householder circulars and other than that, relying on ordinary advertising.
