Big Whitebait Run At Dawn
(N.Z. Press Association) OTAKI, Sept. 30 A favourable small tide brought the biggest run of whitebait in memory into the mouth of the Otaki river yesterday. Two men and a woman fishing together netted 4001 b. Another half-dozen regular whitebaiters caught an additional 3001 b between them. The bulk was caught soon after dawn. Those who arrived later got next to nothing. Before yesterday’s bonanza, the season locally was the best for years with earlier catches of 60 and 1001 b netted.
