Returning Home
The Canterbury mares, Patchwork and When, are at present in England where they will spend six months in quarantine before returning to New Zealand. Patchwork is safely in foal to the Billy Direct horse, Direct Rhythm, according to advice received by her Methven breeder-trainer, P. A. Watson. When was mated with a son of the champion trotting sire, Rodney, but her Leeston breeder, W. J. Doyle, is not certain whether she is in foal. Both Patchwork and When failed to stand up to much racing in the United States, and neither reproduced their best New Zealand form.
