Standard Accounts Plan At Secretaries’ Meeting

TAURANGA, September 30. Secretaries of 11 racing clubs In the Auckland-Waikato area yesterday met at Tauranga to discuss aspects of racing club administration. The meeting was the first of its type in New Zealand. The meeting decided to notify trainers in the Auckland and Waikato areas of a reduction in the detail required for the confirmation of nominations. This, it was felt, would result in a major saving in the routine clerical work required of trainers each week. Mr M. W. C. Macky, secretary of the Waipa Racing Club, said that racing clubs should present a standardised form of annual accounts so that comparative costing of race meetings and racecourse maintenance could be undertaken between clubs. He said it cost his club £6BOO to operate its racecourse property last year and, with only

three racing days, it meant a cost of £2200 a day charge against the race meeting expenses. Mr Macky is to prepare a case for standardised accounts for presentation at the next twoyearly meeting of racing club secretaries at Wanganui in September, 1965. The meeting also asked Mr W. N. Mackie, secretary of the Auckland Racing Club, to investigate the queston of leases and contingencies as they affected bracketing of horses on the totalisator, with a view to suggesting an amendment to the Rules to remove the necessity of brackets caused by these.
