HAIRCUT PRICES
Denial Bill Caused Rise (Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON, Sept 30. The Health Amendment Bill cleared up doubts about the validity of regulations, introduced in 1931, by the registration of hairdressers’ shops, the Minister of Health (Mr McKay) said in the second reading debate on the bill in Parliament today. The regulations were already in force, and it was wrong to suggest that the bill, which now gave more specific power, was a cause of a rise in the’ price of haircuts. Mr N. J. King (Opp, Waitemata) said he felt the provisions for new regulations governing the standards of hygiene in barbers’ and hairdressers’ establishments might raise the price from 4s or 4s 6d, which was already enough.
