ANNIVERSARIES MARKED
Two Country Women’s Institutes in the Canterbury Federation celebrated anniversaries recently.
Mrs E. E. Glen (president) welcomed guests to the twenty-third birthday party of the Sumner Institute, held in the community centre. Sprays were presented to guests, who included senior citizens of the district, Mrs C. D. Newton (Dominion federation), Mrs M. Morten and representatives of other institutes. A programme of entertainment was arranged by Mrs A. Cooper. Ranaki institute celebrated its fifteenth annivarsery. Mrs C. Cornish (president) welcomed guests, who included the Mayoress of Lyttelton, Mrs J. B. Collett. Mrs Collett presented tronhies won during the year. The domestic cup was won by Mrs Cornish, and the gardening cup by Mrs A. Couch.
Other guests included representatives of C.W.T. federations and sister organisations. Mrs C. D. Newton and Mrs Audrey. Couch (secretary). cut the cake. Mrs Couch, who is leaving to live in Dunedin, was bidden farewell by Mrs Cornish. A programme of entertainment included songs by the choir, solos (Mrs Cornish) accompanied by Mrs Freda Couch; Maori action and part songs and the long double poi by school children, and a sketch. ,
