Rapaki Moves Heavy Cargo
The Lyttelton Harbour Board’s 762-ton crane ship, Rapaki, was at work in the port yesterday unloading heavy earthmoving equipment from the City of Philadelphia. With a lifting capacity of 80 tons, the floating crane is used when the Cargo is too heavy for the mobile cranes on the wharves. During the day the Rapaki made about 15 lifts of 23 tons each. The Rapaki was built in 1926 and has an outreach of 23 feet. Standing 101 feet, it is usually berthed at No. 5 West when not in service.
