Olympic Ban On Athletes (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) TOKYO, Sept. 30. Indonesia’s Sports Minister, Mr R. Maladi, today began a series of talks with Japanese and International Olympic Committee officials to try tc, gain full admission for Indonesia in next month’s Tokyo games. Indonesia’s suspension from the Olympic movement was lifted earlier • this year, but. her track and field athletes and swimmers are still barred from competing in the Olympics by the international ruling bodies of these two sports.
The International Amateur Athletic Federation and the International Swimming Federation have said that they will not lift their ban on competitors who took part in last year’s Games of the New Emerging Forces in Djakarta. Asked about the ban by the two international federations, Mr Maladi said today: “That is the International Olympic Committee’s problem.” Indonesia has brought barred athletes and swimmers to Tokyo in the hope that the ban on them will be lifted before the games start on October 16.
