Greater Use Of Tunnel
Traffic using the Christ-church-Lyttelton road tunnel in August was the highest since May and exceeded that of April, the general manager (Mr L. H. Wilson) reported to the Road Tunnel Authority yesterday. There was an increase of 10.959 vehicles to 69.747, he said. It could be attributed mainly to the fine weather and the school holidays, but all classifications showed an increase. Toll receipts for the month were £B9OB and revenue from the 5313 tons of goods taken through the tunnel was £1196. compared with £968 in July. Wool Finn.— The market at the Geelong wool sales today, as compared with the closing rates of last week, moved in sellers’ favour for the finer merinos, with all other descriptions fully firm.—Melbourne, Sept. 30.
