SEWERAGE RULES
Some Not Complying (Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON, Sept. 30. Some local bodies could thumb their noses at the sewerage requirements laid down by the Board of Health, said Mr J. B. Gordon (Govt, Clutha) in Parliament today. Certain diseases were directly linked with sewage and the board was, Mr Gordon said, concerned that certain local authorities—some admittedly with financial problems—should fail to meet required standards. In some cases it was a matter of deliberate failure. The House could not stand idly by and allow public health to be jeopardised by the failure of a few local authorities. Mr Gordon was speaking on the Health Amendment Bill, a clause in which provides that the Minister of Health may, on the recommendation of the board of health, apply to the Supreme Court for a writ of mandamus to compel a local authority to perform any statutory duty that it has failed to perform under the principal act.
