WATERFRONT PARKING
Ban In Force Today
With all parking banned on the wharves there was going to be hardship on a lot of workers, said Mr W. B. Laing at the Lyttelton Harbour Board meeting yesterday.
He asked if there could be limited parking in the meantime until work was begun on No. 7 wharf. The borough streets were not suitable for parking and were fully taxed now, Mr Laing said. If there could be relaxation on some parts of the waterfront it would be a big help. Enforcement of the parking ban had been held up as long as possible, as it was realised it would cause some hardship and inconvenience, said the chairman (Mr A. A. Macfarlane). Now the officers advised that it must be implemented, and it would come into force on October 1. Further discussion on waterfront parking was taken in committee.
