Gas Price Increase
An increase of 4d per 1000 cubic feet in the cost of gas to all consumers of the Christchurch Gas, Cbal, and Coke Company, Ltd., will apply to all meter readings on and after October 1. This has been approved by the Trade Practices and Prices Division of the Department of Industries and Commerce as a consequence of increased costs from the recent general wage order. The secretary of the company (Mr L. S. Watson) said last evening that the domestic rate would increase from 10s Id to 10s 5d per 1000 cubic feet,' and all other fates would also increase by 4d.
Mr Watson said the last increase in charges in July, 1963, resulted from an increase in wages to gas workers under the Canterbury award.
