FALSE TAX CLEARANCE
Surrendered To Police (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Sept. 28. Pleading guilty before Mr R. D. Jamieson, S.M., today on a charge of forgery by making a false declaration for the purpose of leaving New Zealand, Raymond Francis Fitt, aged 38, salesman, was fined £5O. Sergeant A. Davey, prosecuting, said in Auckland in 1959 the accused got into financial difficulties and decided to go to Australia. He was in arrears for a large sum to the Inland Revenue Department and he obtained his. tax clearance under a false name. Earlier this year he returned to New Zealand with his family and on September 18 surrendered himself to the police. Mr D. S. Deacon, for Fitt, said he had arranged with the Inland Revenue Department to pay off his arrears and wished to make a fresh start in New Zealand.
