ORNAMENTAL POND
Councillor Pleased “I knew I had something, and I’m glad that I was justifield in bringing the matter up,” said Cr. W. B. Laing at a meeting of the Heathcote County Council last evening when a letter from the Drainage- Board advised that the ornamental pool proposed for the Christchurch-Lyttelton Road Tunnel Authority’s building at Heathcote was a hazard. Cr. Laing, a resident of the district, raised the matter at a meeting of the council in April. He then expressed concern that the valley would be in danger of being flooded if the work was allowed to proceed, and had the matter referred to the board for investigation. The board said the work had been done without its knowledge and added that it would not accept responsibility. The council decided to ask the board to direct the authority to remove the inlet structures and reinstate the original culvert conditions under the road embankment.
