DEFECTIVE SIGHT

One Driver In 10 Discovered (Special Crspdt. N.Z.P.A.) LONDON, Sept. 29. Lincolnshire police began a seven-day pilot scheme eyesight test for car drivers at Gainsborough during the week-end; one driver in 10 had defective vision. Most were elderly people. The test was held as an experiment after the police had found that a number of people involved in recent motoring incidents had eyesight faults. Most of the motorists were willing to co-operate. They thought it was a good thing as they had not had their eyes tested. They were asked to read the number plate of a police patrol car parked 25 yards away as required in the test for a driving licence.
