Major-General J. W. Carpenter, assistant deputy Chief of Staff, plans and operations, United States Air Force headquarters, Washington, will arrive in Wellington today for a three-day visit, with members of his staff and United States Pacific Air Force representatives for talks on mutual interests under the defence arrangements between New Zealand and the United States.— (PA.) Mr W. L. Dawes will retire from the boards of the New Zealand Shipping Company and the Federal Steam Navigation Company at the end of this month. Mr Dawes represented Great Britain in 1960, at the age of 56, as the leading helmsman for the Flying Dutchman class in the yachting events.—(P.A.)
