ANTARCTIC STORES
Ship Arrives From U.S. The second cargo vessel bringing stores and equipment for this year’s United States Antarctic Expedition has arrived at Lyttelton. She is the 8380-ton steamer Pioneer Isle from New Orleans. The Pioneer Isle has been discharging general cargo, most of which is for the Antarctic. Included in the cargo is lubricating oil, a small consignment of timber, and a number of tyres. The vessel, which has a crew of 49, is on her second visit to Lyttelton. She normally trades between the United States and Australia. . Her master is Captain W. A. McCullough. The Pioneer Isle was built
in 1944, and is owned by the United States Lines Company.
She sails for Brisbane today.
