TANKERS ON COAST
Discussion On Manning (From Our Own Reporter) WELLINGTON, Sept. 10. Representatives of maritime unions and the oil company consortium controlling the Marsden Point oil refinery met for more than an hour today to discuss the coastal distribution of the refinery’s products. The unions want tankers under New Zealand articles and manned by New Zealand crews to carry the products to other local ports. Union officials said another meeting between the parties would be held on September 21. Today the consortium again offered to put one tanker under New Zealand articles and man it with a local crew for the work, but the unions have set out a number of other requirements. including a request to have the ship surveyed in New Zealand.
