EXPERIMENT WITH RATA
Possible Use As Flooring (From Our Oum Reporter) WELLINGTON, Sept. 9. Experiments were being carried out in the sawing and seasoning of rata with a view [to its trial use as specialty flooring. It was proposed to examine other possible uses for this timber, the Ministet of Forests (Mr Gerard) told Mr P. Blanchfield (Opp., Westland) in Parliament today. Mr Blanchfield asked the Minister if he was aware that rata trees in West Coast forests were lying on the ground and going to waste because they appeared to have no commercial value. Mr Blanchfield mentioned successes with beech, and he suggested Forest Service offi-| cials should experiment with rata.
