CHECK ON CHEQUES
Microwave TV Circuit (N.Z. Press Association) INVERCARGILL, Sept. 9. An inter-bank microwave television circuit came into operation in Invercargill today. The Southland Savings Bank's first Invercargill suburban branch was opened at Windsor in the afternoon by the Mayor of Invercargill (Mr N. L. Watson). The television system, operating between the new branch and the bank's head office in Don street, enables signatures and other information to be checked with the files at head office. If a teller at the Windsor branch wants to check a signature, he puts a telephone call through to the head office. There the signature is taken from the files and flashed on the television screen where it is checked by the teller on his screen at the Windsor office.
