EXTENSION PLANNED
Queenstown Waterfront (N.Z. Press Association) INVERCARGILL, Sept. 9. Queenstown is still waiting for Government approval of its waterfront scheme. “Progress in negotiations has dampened the ardour of those who are pushing hard for progress in Queepstown,” said the Mayor (Mr G. D. Cochrane) today. A £22,000 reclamation scheme has been mooted by the Queenstown Borough Council to extend the town’s cramped waterfront The scheme would enable the town to have an ice skating rink, a swimming pool, a kiosk for the park and a bigger boat harbour. The scheme eould be completed within six months of government approval being given, Mr Cochrane said. The scheme was the forerunner of a bigger plan which could run to £250,000. The waterfront had not changed for 100 years and extensions were long overdue, said Mr Cochrane.
