BEER AFTER RUGBY
Criticism By Coroner The supplying of liquor to teen-agers at functions held after Rugby matches was criticised by the Wellington Coroner (Mr P. Keesing), at an inquest into the death of John Gary Jacobson, aged 19, who died on May 21. The Coroner said it seemed very wrong that the persons in charge of the functions should be allowed to supply liberal quantities of beer to teen-agers. It could not be criticised too strongly. “The people in charge should take into account that some teen-agers w;ho cannot handle liquor properly are going to motor home after the function. The whole idea seems completely wrong,” he said. Evidence was given that after drinking beer at a function after a Rugby match, Jacobson ran his motor-cycle into the rear of a stationary truck, fatally injuring himself.
