WELLINGTON, Sept. 8. Denied indulgence in controversy in his present appointment, he had to. play the role of the “mugwump,” the Gover-nor-General (Sir Bernard Fergusson) told the city development and environment symposium yester-
day. “This, you may recall,” he said, “has been defined as a man sitting on the fence with his mug facing one way and his wump the other. “That’s not mine,” he said, amid the ensuing laughter. “I borrowed it from someone else.”
