72 DEGREES AT 2.30 pan.
Warmest Day Since April
A maximum temperature of 72deg was recorded at Christchurch Airport at 2.30 p.m. yesterday. This was the highest since April 25 when 77deg was recorded. Christchurch was the warm: est of the four main centres by 15deg ; Auckland recorded a temperature of 55deg, at 3 p.m., and Wellington and Dunedin were 50deg at the same time. At 9 a.m. yesterday the temperature was 58deg and when the fresh north-easterly wind changed to a north-westerly the temperature rose to 67deg at noon 70deg at 3 p.m. and then fell slightly to 66deg at 4 p.m. The maximum temperature at the Botanic Gardens was 69deg at 3 p iq. Humidity was low at 37 per cent at 3 p.m. An hour later it had risen to 50 per cent. The. north-west wind averaged 27 miles an hour in the afternoon with gusts of up to 38 miles an hour. There was a light cloud cover most of the day.
