Mr J. B. Goldie, of the Ministry of Works, Wellington, was elected as the first life member of the New Zealand Institute of Engineering Technicians at the meeting of the Dominion council of the institute held in Wellington.—(P.A.) Captain H. N. Lawson has been appointed commodore of the New Zealand Shipping Company and Federal Steam Navigation Company’s combined fleet. He will carry his flag in the Ruahine. He succeeds Commodore Albert Hocken—(P.A.) Mr R. Nunes, a member of the New Zealand Communist Party’s central committee arrived in Djakarta yesterday.— Djakarta, Sept. 8.
