Saving Power
Sir,—One .of your correspondents suggests that overpowerful watqr-heaters are responsible not only for power shortages but for danger to life and limb from scalds. I think there is one small flaw in this reasoning. A harassed housewife, faced with a mountain of washing-up or some sudden laundry requirement, would immediately resort to a boiling kettle for boosting tap-water up to the required temperature, and the’dangers to young and old alike from a general adoption of this expedient would be far more serious than they would be from an ordinary hot tap. By all means let us face the inconvenience inseparable from a power shortage with patience and philosophy, but do not let us make it an occasion for trying to impose sanctions on others.—Yours, BOADICEA.
