Qualifying Times For N.Z. Swimmers
A list of qualifying times for the national championships has been adopted by the council of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association. The scheme will come up for confirmation at the annual meeting of the association next month.
The list was drawn up by Messrs A. J. Donaldson and S. Williams, who used the times of the fourth placed swimmers at the last national championships as the basis
for their qualifying marks. Variations had to be made In some cases. Mr Donaldson believes the times will give swimmers something at which to aim. But, he adds, the marks are by no means tight in comparison with Australian figures. They are:— Men.—Freestyle: 110 yd, Imin 2.ssec; 220 yd, 2min 17sec; 440 yd, 4min 48sec; 1650 yd, 20mln 30sec. Backstroke: 110 yd, Imin 12.5 sec; 220 yd, 2mln 37.55ec. Breaststroke: 110 yd, Imin 21sec; 220 yd, 2min 53sec. Butterfly: 110 yd, Imin 12sec; 220 yd, 3min 12.5 sec; 440 yd medley, Smln 56sec. Women. Freestyle: 110 yd, 1 mln Msec; 220 yd, 2mln 36.55ec; 440yds, smln 44sec. Backstroke: 110 yd, Imin 21sec; 220 yd, 2mln 51sec. Breaststroke: 110 yd, Imin 31.5 sec; 220 yd, 3min Msec. 110 yd butterfly; Imin 26.55ec. 440 yd medley: 6min 30.5 sec. Boys.—Freestyle: 110 yd, Imin 4sec; 220 yd, 2mln 20sec; 440 yd, 4min 58sec. Backstroke: 110 yd, Imin Msec; 220 yd, 2mln 48.5 sec. Breaststroke: 110 yd, Imin 25.5 sec; 220 yd, 3min Bsec. 110 yd butterfly, Imin Msec. 220 yd medley, 2min 46sec. Girls.—Freestyle: 110 yd, Imin ll.Ssec; 220yds, 2mln 38sec; 440 yd, smin 47sec. Backstroke: 110 yd, Imin 22.55ec; 220yds, 2min 58sec. Breastroke: 110 yd, Imin 33sec; 220 yd, 3min Msec. 110 yd butterfly: Imin 30sec; 220 yd medley, 3min 7sec. It Is probable that qualifying times for short course pools will be Issued as well..
