CUSTOMS RETURNS
Christchurch Revenue Up
Revenue collected from customs in Christchurch in the five months to the end of August was £349,675 higher at £4,352,491 than in the same period last year. However, revenue collected during August was £80,160 less at £699,988 than for the same month last year.
Amounts collected so far this year with last year’s figures in parenthesis, are:— Customs and excise, £2,835,486 (£2,830,002); tyres, £1525 (£3314); sales tax, £1,461,400 (£1,125,109); light dues, £7144 (£7147); miscellaneous, £46,936 (£37,244). Amounts collected in August, with August of last year’s figures in parenthesis, are:— Customs and excise, £475,543 (£518,438); tyres, £326 (£824); sales tax, £216,406 (£251,890); light dues, £l3lB (£1459); miscellaneous, £6395 (£7537). DUNEDIN Customs returns for Dunedin in August this year showed a £43,000 decrease on August last year. Amounts collected, with last year’s figures in parenthesis, Customs, £125,329 (£192,924); sales tax, £91,133 (£81,175); others, £97,851 (£83,275); tyres, £95 (£64); total, £314,410 (£357,440).
