TURTLE SENT TO ZOO
Found On Beach In Northland "The Prest" Special Service AUCKLAND, September 1. The turtle found on Ninety Mile Beach and flown to Auckland zoo on Saturday is very sick. It is being bathed with salt Water, but the skin is peeling from the joints of its front flippers and the staff are doubtful if It will live. It was reported to have eaten toheroas and fillets of kahawai in Northland, but at the zoo it has eaten only a small amount of chopped fish. The turtle travelled to Auckland in a specially inscribed and labelled box. The inscriptions included a map of Northland showing Motupia, the spot where the turtle came from.
