Pawnbroker Fined

(N.I. Pres, Association) GORE, Sept. 1. A charge of carrying on the business of a pawnbroker when not the holder of a licence was admitted before Mr W. M. Willis, S.M., today by Norman Alfred Double, a secondhand dealer. He was convicted arid fined £3. Sergeant A. McLellan said the defendant was the proprietor of a second-hand business. A man who came from Christchurch, where he had stolen a camera and other goods, offered the camera to the accused saying his car had broken down and he wanted money to repair ft. He was advanced £4 on the camera on the completion of an agreement.

Sergeant McLellan told the Court that the defendant said he had net realised that he had committed an offence.
