Not Stopped By Snow

Some young country competitors in the Ashburton Competitions Society’s annual festival yesterday kept their appointments to appear on stage in the • morning sessions in spite of having to be driven with difficulty into Ashburton through snow several inches deep on the roads during the violent storm which hit the county. One carload of competitors from the Methven district struck some difficulty over remoter country roads but reached Ashburton in time to appear on the programme. A further 51 classes were decided over the three sessions yesterday which was the second day of the competitions. They included many in the dancing section which has very heavy entries. A feature of the vocal section yesterday was the bigh standard of many of the folk singing entries.
