RAILWAYS ESTIMATES AFTER MIDNIGHT

(New Zealand Press Association)

WELLINGTON, Sept. 2. A long night appeared to be in store for Parliamentarians tonight when the Government unexpectedly decided to continue with estimates after all portfolios of the Attorney-General (Mr Hanan) had been completed at midnight The Leader of the Opposition had moved that progress be reported, but

the Government forced a division, winning It by 35 votes to 32. The House then proceeded to the £46 million vote for the railways. Mr Nordmeyer began Opposition questioning by first strongly protesting that such a huge vote should be considered after midnight and into the early hours of the morning.
