P.M. Buys First U.N.I.C.E.F. Cards
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, September 1. The U.N.I.C.E.F. national committee’s £lO,OOO 1964 Christmas greeting card camEwas opened today by the Prime ter (Mr Holyoake).
Mr Holyoake bought the first box of this year’s greeting cards from the U.N.1.C.E.F. committees chairman (Mr J. Belich) who called on him to open their campaign. "This Christmas card campaign emphasises the humanitarian ideals of international
co-operation for the alleviation of hunger and suffering Children’s Plight “It also highlights U.N.1.C.E.F.s particular concern for the tragic plight of millions of children throughout the world,” said Mr Holyoake. “Only with the help of organisations like U.N.I.'C.E.F. —and of more fortunate people, like New Zealanders —can these children be expected to make their contribution to the progress of a world which in 20 years will belong to them,” he said. In the last two years, £127,000 had been paid to U.N.I.C.E.F. projects from contributions by the people of New Zealand. The Government’s contribution had been maintained at £75,000 a year, said Mr Holyoake.
