SOUTHSHORE EROSION
Possible Action By Ratepayers
The Southshore Ratepayers’ Association would support any action by ratepayers owning property on the sea frontage from Caspian street southwards to protect their frontages against erosion by the sea, the association’s secretary (Mr B. F. Lawrence) said yesterday. This was decided at a meeting of the committee of the association on Monday evening. Mr Lawrence did not know of any specific action planned by property owners. The condition of Rocking Horse road gave the association concern, he said, and the committee had written on the subject to the Christchurch City Council and the Christchurch Drainage Board. The road would not be fixed until after the sewer was put through. The board had acquired a site for a pumping station, but could not give a date for completion of the sewer. Mr .Lawrence was appointed the association’s representative on the New- Brighton Pier and Foreshore Promotion Society, the Canterbury Progress League, . and any other organisation interested in improving the New Brighton foreshore and the Estuary. The Christchurch Transport Board had included the Caspian street bus terminus on its list of sites for passenger shelters, Mr Lawrence said.
