FINED FOR ASSAULT

Graham Montgomery Gilbert, aged 19, a driver’s assistant, and Brian Reginald Stills, aged 26, a driver, were fined on assault charges by Messrs J. B. Collett and L. J. Shuker, Justices of the Peace, at Lyttelton yesterday. Sergeant J. Quirke said there was a complaint from the Lyttelton Grill Room, London street, at 6.30 p.m. on Saturday, when accused alleged Raymond Wells had pushed into the queue to be served. When Wells protested, he was dragged into the street by accused, punched and injured about the head, face and body. He required medical attention. Gilbert was fined £25 of which £5 was to be awarded to the injured man as compensation for medical fees. Stills was fined £l5, of which £5 was to be awarded to the injured man.
