SOUTH ISLAND TOUR

Vihakatane H.S. Pupils Thirty pupils of the V.’hakatane High School will begin a 5-day bus tour of the South Island tomorrow. The party of 24 girls and six boys, accompanied by two teachers, left Whakatane yesterday.

The children will arrive m Christchurch tomorrow morning from the interisland steamer. Soon after arrival they will collect gear sent direct from Whakatane and travel by bus to a motor camp.

In the afternoon the party will visit a Canterbury woollen mill, a glass company. and a carpet factory. On Thursday the party will travel to Ashburton, Temuka and Timaru where it will stay for the night On Friday the children will arrive in Dunedin' where it will be greeted by a mayoral reception and tea. From Dunedin the party will go to Lawrence, Roxburgh. Coal Creek. Alexandra and Cromwell. They will return to Christchurch on Monday and go north by steamer in the evening.

Designed as a practical lesson in geography the trip will cost each child £25 plus meal and spending money. Accommodation has been booked at motor camps. In both islands the party will visit farms and industries and will visit Parliament Buildings, and the Ruakura Animal Research station.
