Albertville Back In Govt. Hands
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) LEOPOLDVILLE, August 31. The Congolese Government claimed in an official communique broadcast over Radio Leopoldville that Government troops recaptured the rebel-held city of Albertville yesterday. The communique said the Government troops, under the command hf a. Colonel Kakudi had “liberated” 28 Belgian employees of the Filtisaif
Textile Company in Albertville. Another 100 Europeans believed to be in Albertville were still unaccounted for. After last Thursday’s announcement of the recapture of Albertville, reports reaching Leopoldville said a twopronged attack on the city by about 40 white mercenaries had been repelled. Five of the mercenaries were wounded in the clash — the first ground action the mercenaries participated in. It was not known here whether any mercenaries were involved in the latest reported fighting in. Albertville. Albertville fell to the rebels in mid-June. It is in North Katanga province on Lake Tanganyika, about 300 miles south of the town of Uvira, the rebels’ “administrative centre.”
