Taxi Goodwill
. Sir,—The fact of no increase in taxi licences for five years may have caused increases in goodwill, but that was rectified by the 25 new licenfces. The present position may be artificial in that it may reflect the desires of financial interests to unload large sums of money on the taxi business in pursuit of 8 per cent interest. As goodwill does not always rise but can fall, they may burn their fingers. I have suggested fixing goodwill on what the taxi proprietor had paid plus a reasonable margin of profit, the margin of profit to be negotiated between the taxi proprietors and the Transport Department. 1 also suggested that all future taxi licences be made non-trans-ferable. The taxi business should be given a respite from new licences for 12 months to help stabilise takings.— Yours, etc..
